ALY VELJI
PRINCIPAL AND SENIOR DESIGNER
For the last 11 years Alykhan Velji’s boutique design firm has brought an energetic flavour to the Canadian design scene. Known as a master of mixing design styles, patterns and textures, he loves to add a hint of the unexpected to each of his projects—ensuring that each design is personalized, goes beyond the current trends, and stands the test of time.
Serving both residential and commercial clients, Aly is also a familiar face in the Canadian television industry, appearing on shows including “Designer Superstar Challenge,” “The Style Dept,” “My RONA Home” and is a resident design expert on “The Marilyn Denis Show.” Aly has received numerous awards for his designs and most recently was short listed for the 2016 Designer of The Year awards from Western Living Magazine. Aly has also gone on to design his own line of Rugs, a collection of furniture made with reclaimed wood called SALVAGE and is recently launched a capsule furniture collection with Canadian furniture company, Mobilia.
Katie Nelson
LEAD DESIGNER (B.A.I.D.)
A world-traveller and lover of all things vintage, Katie brings a fresh approach to design and advanced technical layout experience to the AVD team. Clients love her passion for mixing patterns, textures and colours in modern and unexpected ways.
Katie is a graduate of the Mount Royal University Bachelor of Applied Interior Design program and has worked as a custom millwork designer and visual display stylist. Katie is filled with curiosity for all things design, what’s happening in the local arts scene and knows what’s new and trending in the city at all times.
Alison Connor
INTERIOR DESIGNER
Alison completed her Bachelor of Interior Design degree through Yorkville University and a Bachelor of Applied Technology from Conestoga College in 2013. Her love of travel and experiencing new places inspires her broad sense of design. She loves to mix different design styles to create eclectic, energetic and surprising interiors. Alison grew up in Cottage Country in Northern Ontario and she remains a lover of the outdoors, especially being near (or in) the water.
Martina Baim
INTERIOR DESIGNER
Born and raised in Calgary, Martina left YYC to pursue her Bachelor of Interior Design at Humber College in Toronto. She finds design inspiration by travelling as often as possible and ensures that each project includes the right balance between being timeless and light-hearted. Martina brings a kind and adventurous spirit to the AVD team, along with an advanced knowledge of the Real Housewives franchises.
Rebecca Clark
INTERIOR DESIGNER
Earning both a Diploma in Business Administration from Regina and an Interior Design Degree from Mount Royal University, Rebecca combines her analytical and artistic sides to design functionally beautiful spaces. She loves to create inviting rooms that are often inspired by the colours and textures she sees in nature – either from her travels to Ireland and Scotland, or regular outings with her beloved Papillon, Emmy.
Megan Stimpson
INTERIOR DESIGNER
Megan was born in Winnipeg but has spent most of her life in Calgary, making her an amazing source for recommendations on the city’s best coffee, top new places to dine, and of course design shops to browse. She is constantly taking inspiration from her surroundings and loves mixing patterns, textures and tones to create unique designs – ones that bring families together. When she’s not nose-down in client work she’s more than happy to share her take on what’s brewing on her favourite reality show: Love Island.
