Friday Favourites – Best of 2017

Happy Friday, design lovers! This is the last Friday Favourites of the year and it has us feeling a little nostalgic. As we reminisce over this past year, we look at all of the great trends that have graced us with their presence in the design world. Here is a look at our favourite trends from 2017!

Kristy was all about the deep green colour trend this year. After “Greenery” was named Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2017, we started seeing the colour in all of its glorious shades more and more. Green is such as versatile colour and has a timeless elegance to it. We love incorporating this deep, moody green into our designs. The dark hue adds depth and character to a space and we have a feeling we’re going to be seeing more of it come the new year!

Alison has been crazy for the velvet trend this year. This luscious fabric will bring a hint of luxury to any space, like the Smythe Velvet Chair from West Elm. This chair matches high style with high comfort, pairing a strong geometric profile with softly rounded edges. The velvet upholstery elevates this piece, creating a luxurious vibe. Velvets in rich, bold colours like reds, blues and greens are sure to make any furniture piece a showstopper!

Aly was loving the new organic trend this year. The Aileron Dining Arm Chair from Holly Hunt is a great example of this fairly new trend. The leather upholstery mixed with the black, straight legs is what this trend is all about. The look has a more casual sensibility, less rules to follow and more care free. Think bohemian meets modern with a mix of clean lines and architectural elements.

Rob can’t get enough of the Scandinavian trend. This trend isn’t necessarily new, but it is one that keeps evolving and going strong! The white wood tones, neutral palette and clean, simple lines are all common themes in this trend. This aesthetic paired with simple, minimalistic furniture will be sure to give you some scanda vibes. Throw in some pops of mellow yellows, pale blues and pinks and you’re good to go!

Katie has been obsessed with the bold, floral wallpaper trend this year. TheĀ Calm Before the Storm from Ashley Woodson Bailey is the perfect way to add some drama to your space. The yellow and whites feel extremely luxurious and feminine but still gives off a powerful vibe. We are still crushing on this dramatic trend, which can easily vamp up any room!

We can’t wait to see what trends pop up in 2018!
Happy New Year from the AVD team!
